Vlog-8-Passing out Free Suits and Speaking to At-Risk Teens in Group Homes

 This past weekend I was blessed to be apart of the Glamour Gowns and Suit Giveaway which was held in Downtown LA. Check out the website here: https://casala.org/ggsu/

The event provides FREE suits and dresses for upcoming proms, graduations, and events for teens 15+. I not only was one of the EMCEEs of the event, but also had a great opportunity to speak and connect with at risk teens in foster homes. I met over 100 teens and made sure to shake everyone’s hand. The smallest interactions can help alter someone’s future.

Back when I lived in Massachusetts I worked with foster children ages 12-17 who would be moved from group home to group home on a weekly basis. As a staff member in the homes I recognized the new kids would enter the group homes in defense mode. These kids would enter the home ready to fight and argue with other kids or staff because they weren't used to trusting people. They mentally knew they were just another name in the system waiting to be moved. So, I made it a goal to interact with each kid as they came into the home. I wanted to at least show I took the time out of my shift to get to know them. After time the kids would open up to me and share what was on their mind. And, that can be a major difference in a young teens life.

CALL TO ACTION: I would like to start an event like this back home. So, anyone in the Taunton/Brockton/Boston area that is affiliated with any suits and dress businesses (tag them) lets partner up and create an event to GIVE back to our community! I’m willing to emcee, give my time, and spread the word in any way I can.
