I KNOW I WILL BE SUCCESSFUL

As I sit here eating my food, getting ready to edit some footage from today I'm watching some videos that were sent to me. The end of 2016 is in a few days and all I can do is reflect. Reflect on the ups and downs of this year. These videos that I'm currently watching are motivational videos that are summarizing my year. I feel like everything being spoken in the videos is exactly what 2016 was for me. It's hard to explain especially as I continue to eat this food but I wanted to make sure I shared the link for the videos so maybe you can view them and be inspired by them like I have. Because, I KNOW I WILL BE SUCCESSFUL and I want my #BYODFAM to have belief in themselves that they will too. When the phone charger isn't working (BTS pics and video)

In this smart phone generation we rely so much on our electronics. And, in my opinion there isn't anything worse than having a charger break on you. Or you have to put the charger in the most outrageous positions in order for it to charge. Well it safe to say that was the inspiration for our latest skit. Check it out below:

2 Chainz and his True Foundation give back this holiday season by giving a family in need a new van!

The Holiday season is that time of year to give back. Unfortunately, not every family is in a position to give back or even give to others in their own family. The Christmas Season is always hyped up about gift giving and credit card swiping. But, the true meaning of Christmas (in my opinion) is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and share love for one another.

Recently. 2 Chainz continued his TRU Foundation mission which is to give back to families in need. Last Christmas 2 Chainz surprised a family in need  by paying their rent for a whole year and awarding them with a new car. Check out the blog post here: http://beyourowndad.blogspot.com/2016/01/tru-foundation-continues-to-give-back.html

The dabbin' Santa Clause sweaters were the go-to purchase for every gift giver last year. The proceeds from the sales were used to give back to the community. And, this year 2 chainz was able to reward another family with a new van for their traveling needs. The story is very touching and goes right with the BYOD motto of turning a negative into a positive! Check the video out below:

Was he "really" kicked off a plane for speaking Arabic?

This guy....

Yeah, first time watching this you will feel bad for Adam Saleh for getting kicked off of a plane for speaking Arabic. I admit it, I did. I even retweeted it onto my facebook timeline. But, there's more to learn about this story.

Adam Saleh is a Youtuber that is known for his various prank videos. It looks like this isn't the first time he's recorded himself speaking Arabic on a plane. He actually has a video recording of himself counting down from 10 in Arabic on a previous plane laughing. So, the question is was this incident with Delta all apart of Adam's plan?

I think it was! As I continue to learn about this entertainment industry, I begin to ask myself "what is a good way to capture an audiences? IDK..maybe do something that involves being a minority and flying! I'm sure that will make news. If the story is true...than I'm not surprised. America is in a real akward state of mind right now with Donald Trump entering the whitehouse. People are gonna start to crack.

If this was all a hoax than ill say this....well played....game recognize game lol

Love & Hip Hop: New York Season 7 Episode 6 After Show and more!

Last nights Love and Hip Hop NY episode received two thumbs down from yours truly! I said what I needed to say on the offical Aftershow on the Afterbuzz Network. What I recently found out is after the airing of the show Erika (Mendecee's Baby Mother) posted several pictures of Yandy's apartment on her social media. And, the apartment is looking real dirty. And, btw I refrain from getting into petty situations for my blog. But, I do cover the aftershow so I give my audience all the information I know. No chatty pattying over here lmao. How To Handle A First Date

This new BYOD content was inspired by the many horrible first date stories I hear all the time. Ladies and Men experience the MOST on first dates. We can all agree that it either goes really good or really bad. Anyway, that's why the BYOD way exists because somebody has to educate those that don't know how to handle a first date. Now, am I saying that the BYOD will work 100% of the time?....nahhh lol. But, if you watch something that you think will work for you than I say take it and run with it. Check out the behind the scenes footage and video below:

T'was the weekend before Christmas

Here's my attempt to cover more of my day to day activities. So, this past weekend was COLD! I saw the temperature on snapchat of my people back home and it was 5 degrees. Now, the west coast wasn't that bad but it gets real cold over here too. I attended two events this weekend. First event was put on by Russel Simmon's digital outlet company ADD and Spotify Saturday Evening, They had a new artist premiere some music and shot a performance. I was supposed to get paid $50! for attending but I had to leave early so that didn't happen.

I left that event early and headed back into the Valley to attend the Afterbuzz Holiday Party. Which is always fun because Kevin Undergaro and Maria Menounos KNOW how to throw a party. I landed 2nd place in the ugly sweater party. Can you believe 2nd place!! Not bad for a cool sweater I found last minute thooooo lol. Anyways check out the pics below:
Its not considered a ugly sweater if it's on my back

My co-host Khaliel
BTW the blog passed 40k views all time over the weekend so that was something to celebrate as well!

Hip Hop Evolution on Netlix is a MUST WATCH!

I just finished watching "Hip Hop Evolution" on Netflix and it just hit me with  a tons of brick of inspiration no renovation. (J.ole reference) It was a dope documentary. I enjoyed it because I've always felt a connection to Hip Hop and being able to learn about it from the start was hella cool. After watching it, it makes me want to document more of my personal journey. Because down the line it would be cool to make a lil documentary of my life. I mean the Hip Hop Evolution was well researched and greatly  produced because there was actual videos, pictures, and audio from back in the day. And, that's what makes it so authentic. I recommend anyway that is unfamiliar with the dopest culture known as Hip Hop to go on Netlflix now and start watching. Get Down with the Get Down!

This is hella random but I wanted to post this pic in the blog before I forget. That time I kicked it and partied with the big homies DJ Khalad, Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown, Amber Rose, and some others at Supper Club when is was always LIT.  Catch me in the bright ass orange polo.

The Evolution of Gucci Mane La Flur!

One of the biggest events of 2016 that was eye opening for me was the transformation of Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. Before serving a 3 year prison sentence Gucci Mane was one of the most feared rappers to walk this earth. His demeanor and presence made people that he came in contact with fear him. Because everyone knew that he really did what he rapped about. Gucci Mane robbed, assaulted, and stole from whoever. HE DID NOT CARE! He has a known beef that ended in murder drama with down south rapper Young Jeezy. He was in and out of jail time and time again for various crimes. He was often high on numerous drugs so understanding him when he spoke was difficult. And, to add more fear to his demeanor he tatted a ice cream come on his face! Check out this interview on the Breakfast Club before his prison term:

BYOD is about turning your negatives into positives and I came to the conclusion there isn't any better example of this than Gucci Mane. In his latest interview with the Breakflast Club he shares that his prison term saved his life. Gucci Mane's prison sentence of 35 years was able to be dropped down to 3 years. The change in his prison term was all Gucci Mane needed to motivate himself to change his lifestyle. After being released from prison you can clearly see a completely different Gucci Mane. The internet became so shocked of his change that they were rumors of a "Gucci Clone". Gucci laughed and like the smart businessman that he is ran with the free press. He even released a song referring to the clone rumors.

The Gucci Mane we see today is a much more intellectual individual. He often reads books, works out routinely, and stays away from the drugs (So he says). He still is a musical genius but he now understands the impact that he has on current and upcoming artist. Now, you can fully understand Gucci Mane when he speaks and I applaud this man for changing his life for the better. Once again Gucci used his negative position of being in prison as a positive to change his lifestyle for the better. Check his latest Breakfast Club Interview below:

J.Cole "4 Your Eyez Only" Album BYOD Music Review

BYOD Review of:  J. Cole - 4 Your Eyez Only
By: Magno Nogueira

After two years of waiting J. Cole’s fourth studio album is finally here and after listening to it on repeat the whole weekend I can finally share my thoughts on it.  The album’s melodic and is sonically appealing. There isn’t much of anything to really turn up too, which what most people want from hip hop now-a-days, but it’s a project you can enjoy relaxing at home  or maybe while on a blunt ride.  But, the more I’ve listened to the records I began to understand the album is a lot deeper than just the music.  I missed the story the first couple times listening to “4 Your Eyez Only”. When I finally was able to sit down and dissect the lyrics, I then realized that the whole album is written from the perspective of a Father sharing his life story with his daughter, explaining his life, the choices he made, experiences that made him reconsider his life style and how he matured too late to escape his lifestyle alive.  The deceased father is most likely James McMillan Jr., a friend of J. Cole who was caught up in the street life and was murdered.  He mentions this in the last verse of the song “Change” when he says “I made it home, I woke up and turned on the morning news, Overcame with a feeling I can't explain, Cause that was my nigga James that was slain, he was 22.”

“4 Your Eyes Only”  introduces itself with “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” being told from the perspective of James, praying to God and confessing his depression. He feels like he’s going to die and needs help.  He says in the second line of the first verse “But what do you do when there's no place to turn? I have no one, I'm lonely, my bridges have burnt down, Lord, Lord.” He’s saying that he ruined relationships with everyone who can physically help him now he can hear the church bells calling him, and God being the only one he can ask for help.

Then the album changes its pace and tone, when J. Cole starts rapping on the next track “Immortal.” It starts off “Now I was barely seventeen with a pocket full of hope, Screamin', dollar and a dream with my closet lookin' broke, And my nigga's lookin' clean, gettin' caught up with that dope.” This verse is setting up the narrative by explaining why he got involved in the street life.  Cole then goes on to explaining the negatives that come from selling dope, which is having to avoid the police; seeing your friends pass away; explaining how their names will live on by the people associated with him on the block, and the ones who stood on the plot, aka the ones who are at his funeral and visit his burial plot. “In my mind I been cryin', know it's wrong but I'm sellin', Eyes wellin' up with tears, Thinkin' 'bout my niggas dead in the dirt, Immortalized on this shirt, Real niggas don't die, Forward with the plot, One-Seven-Forty-Five, For him at the plot.”

Now, at first I was disappointed in the next song “Déjà vu”, because the beat that was used is the same as Bryson Tillers “Exchange”. Which using that beat gives the album a mixtape feel. But, come to find out there is controversy as to which producer made the beat first.  You can read more about this on:

After learning of the beat I was able to finally enjoy the song. This song is about a guy who has feelings for a girl at a party who is already in a relationship, but he eventually sees her out alone and is able to get her number. Now this could be about J. Cole, but in an attempt to have it flow with the theme of the album it could be about James and how he met the mother of his daughter

Next song slows down a little bit and explains the “Ville Mentality,” and how that’s got Cole thinking about retirement like he mentioned in “Jermaine’s interlude” on DJ Khaled’s “Major Key” album. This also ties into the theme of the album where James could be feeling he should get away from his current situation knowing it won’t be long until he disappears. You can see how it can be in reference to both of them when Cole says “…Damn it, won't be long 'fore I disappear, You call it runnin', I call it escapin', Start a new life in a foreign location, Similar to my niggas duckin' cases, Can't take the possible time that it faces.” Then it’s like he reconsiders these thoughts when he says in the second verse, “Nigga play me, never, Give up my chain, never, Give up my pride, never, Show my pain, never, Dirt on my name, never.” This is the “Ville Mentality” and this way of thinking is what can put someone in a situation where they could possibly lose their life. You also get a feeling as if he’s talking from James’ perspective when the little girl speaks on how her father died and how she wishes he was around.

Moving on we get into “She’s mine, pt. 1” where Cole is speaking on how he fell in love with his wife.  But, with this you can tell he’s speaking from James’ perspective as well and how he fell in love with his child’s mother.  You may understand this when he says “She gets him, you get me, She hugs him, you kiss me.” This explains how he’s talking about his love and the love between James and his girl.

The song “Change” speaks on how James is looking to change his lifestyle, maybe trying to do this by taking basketball more serious and focusing on that. There is a reference to this when Cole says, “Yeah, prodigal son, got a new gun, this one, Don't run out of ammo lately been working on my handles, Can I ball, become a star, and remain myself.”  This change in mentality comes too late though because by the end of the song he dies and ends at his funeral service. “Pistols be poppin' and niggas drop in a heartbeat, Scattered like roaches, a body laid on the concrete…No time for that, ain't no lookin' back, cause I'm running too, I made it home, I woke up and turned on the morning news …that was my nigga James that was slain, he was 22.”

After the death of James in the story line J. Cole starts to speak on things going on directly in his life.  Now in “Neighbors” Cole is talking about a true story of how his neighbors called the police suspecting that people were selling drugs out of his home, but it was being used as a recording studio and when the police raided the house that’s all that was found. This song takes a break from the narrative to speak on the racist stereotypes that still exist in America.  He explains this in the second verse “…Took a little break just to annotate.”

Cole then dives into “Foldin Clothes,” where he is speaking on doing what is most important to him at the moment and that’s trying to help his wife in anyway while she is dealing with the pregnancy.
In “She’s Mine, Pt. 2” Cole is speaking on falling in love with his new born daughter.  It can also reflect on the feelings for his friend James and how he felt about his daughter when she was born.

The last song on the album which is the title track “4 Your Eyez Only,” is where you discover that the whole album is a message from Cole’s friend James to his daughter.  The record starts by explaining James’ life and James’ request if anything happens to him for Cole to tell his story to his daughter. With hope that this will help her understand why he made the mistakes that he made and how he tried to change, but the change didn’t happen soon enough. J. Cole explains this in the last verse when he’s telling James’ daughter, Nina, about a conversation that him and her father had, also explaining the purpose of the album "Listen, I got no time to dive into descriptions, But I've been having premonitions, Just call it visions from the other side, I got a feeling I won't see tomorrow, Like the time I'm living on is borrowed, With that said, the only thing I'm proud to say, I was a father, Write my story down and if I pass, Go play it for my daughter when she ready."

Every song on the album is relatable to J. Cole and his friend James. Their lives pretty much reflect each other besides for a few crucial choices that took them into two different directions, one towards the street life and the other into making music.  J. Cole’s journey being the BYOD way, turning a negative situation into a positive one, and the others journey being one of someone trapped in the mentality of the street life, the “Ville Mentality.”  Each of them are telling their story but for two different audiences, James for his Daughter’s eyes and J. Cole for the eyes of his daughter and his fans. When I first heard the album I gave it a B but after finding the deeper meaning behind the music I have to give it this project an A.  If you didn’t notice these things the first time you heard the album than go back and listen again because it may change your perspective on the album.

Rain always falls before the Sunshine Comes

Life for me this year has been on the high for the most part. I've been able to progress in my career as well as in my life. But, there is a saying that goes something like "when things are too good something is bound to happen"-Les Brown

This week has been a tough one for me. Earlier in the week I posted a blog post mentioning that I was gong through a trying time. One thing I enjoy about blogging is I get to speak on topics that I normally wouldn't speak on. Building an audience allows you to be vulnerable with those that support you. Well this post is one of those times. In this blog I've wrote about my personal journey of moving to California, finding a job and establishing myself. Well, earlier in the week I was fired from my job. I've been blessed to find a job a month and half into moving here. Granted the graveyard shift wasn't fun but ironically it played a major part in my leaving. And, the job allowed me to pay my bills as I pursue my dream. But, being let go a few weeks away from Christmas when jobs aren't even hiring anymore is a tough pill to swallow. Funds aren't where I'd like them to be. College loans are riding on my back. Credit card bills aren't going to pay for themselves. So, I allowed myself to moap around for a day but I know this train keeps going.
Reflection begins with looking yourself in the eye

I still have a brand to build and I won't allow anything to stop me from making my impact in this world.. So, right now is a time for reflection. What have I been doing that put me in this position? What can I do to put myself in a better position? Is the 9-5 or 12-8 job all I can get? Is their another way?

I'm a fan of watching interviews of successful people and they all have said before their big "break" came they went through a major struggle. Is this what they've been referring too? Only time will tell for ya boy. In the mean time I'm getting back to working on myself mentally, physically, and spiritually. Will I survive....only time will tell. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Stay tuned for an update as time goes on....

Love and Hip Hop: New York Season 7 Episodes 4-5 Review & After Show | AfterBuzz TV

O boy! Here we are again the Tuesday after a new episode of Love and Hip Hop New York. This week there was two episodes back to back to watch so my panel and I had a whole lot to talk about on the official aftershow at Afterbuzz TV. Keep in mind I am a fan of the show. Being a young creator and producer I am learning about show production. I tend to speak my mind on the aftershow and even though I do critique the show I am learning from it. I know i'm not the only one that loose brain cells everytime I watch an episode. The story lines and scenarios are soooooooooo over the top it annoys me. I'm glad that I can see through the BS of the episodes but sadly there are viewers out there that believe everything in these episodes are true Granted the lives and professions of the cast may true but the storylines are terrible. I don't want to type too much here so check out the Aftershow below:

Sit down Interview with Lil Durk and Hypno Carlito w/BTS Pics

Last week I was able to sit down with the OTF general Lil Durk and fellow rapper Hyno Carlito to discuss his new mixtape "They Forogt" that was released 11/25/16. Go download that now on hotnewhiphop.com! I enjoyed this interview because I was able to speak on topics that show a different side of the rapper. Instead of talking about rap beef and the music industry, I chose to speak about topics that anybody watching can relate too.

I take it personal when people not familiar with the rap game or Hip Hop culture and judge an artist based off their music. There is more to a person that we can learn about if we take the opportunity to talk with them on different topics. Lil Durk and Hypno Carlito are two intellectual individuals that understand a change is needed right now to help the next generation. They also offer thier BYOD rule to support the BYOD movement. Check out the interview below! Make sure to share the interview with a friend!

Pressure makes Diamonds!

Good Morning #BYODFAM!

2016 is almost closing....Its Monday Morning December 12. My week is off to a very rough start but I'm keeping my head up. Leaving everything in God's hand and understanding that everything happens for a reason.

I had to turn to my man Eric Thomas this morning to keep me motivated. Eric Thomas releases a Thank God Its Monday episode on his Youtube channel every Monday. Today's episode "Pressure Makes Perfect" was about being overlooked and using that matter to motivate yourself to be better. (negative to a positive) Eric Thomas uses the example of New England Patriots QB Tom Brady being overlooked by every team when he was being drafted back in 2000. Brady was pick #199 in the 6th round! He is now arguably the best quarterback in NFL History. With his last win against the Los Angeles Rams Tom Brady became the most winning quarterback ever! No other quarterback in the history of the NFL has won more football games than Tom Brady! An amazing accomplishment in itself but who would of thought a 6th round draft pick would of accomplished that goal. Tom put the pressure on himself to prove everybody wrong! And, he has.

I like to share that being overlooked and "underrated" is motivation in any situation. People are always going to look down on you and say your aren't good enough for this and that. I take it from my own personal story. I'm someone that has a speech impediment that is striving to become a host. There isn't anymore striving for this young King. I put the pressure on  myself to move out to California and do what I said I would do despite the odds. I can say that I am a host. I am on the red carpets. I do host and co-host shows. I am speaking with successful people and learning from their stories. And i'm dong all of this with my speech impediment. So, whenever someone passes up on you for an opportunity or telling you that you aren't good enough....just smile and say you missed out on a BIG deal. Put that pressure on yourself and put in the WORK to prove them wrong!
