LA Screening of The Get Down Returning April 7th

Part 2 of Season 1 of Netflix's The Get Down is set to return to your screen on April 7th. The Get Down crew consisting of DJ Shaolin Fantastic and Books are coming back with more sets and dance moves. The love story between Books and Mylene continues as both of their careers begin to grow. The relationship tested in part 2 when money, fame, and the business become entangled in their lives.

The screening of the first episode of part 2 was held yesterday at the Netflix building in Hollywood, California. I personally attended the screening and it was dope. The audience joined together laughing and reacting to specific parts in the episode. I personally enjoy the evolution of the characters being that a year has passed since we've seen the cast. I have so many favorite characters on the cast but Cadillac played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is my go to guy. His character is dominant and his dance moves kept the audience laughing. I feel like a drug dealer back in the 70s & 80s would be him.

The screening was held by supervising producer Nelson George and Choreographers Rich and Tone. Check out exclusive pictures of the Netflix office and event below.

Throwback Album Of The Week: 50 Cent Get Rich Or Die Tryin'

The first time I ever heard 50 cent aka Curtis Jackson was when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was watching Mtv Jams in the morning waiting to go to the bus stop and the “Wanksta” video comes on, I immediately start feeling the song. It was catchy and the whole day at school the only phrase you can hear me singing was “You said you a gangsta, but you never pop nothin, We said you a Wanksta and you need to stop frontin.” I didn’t even know who he was talking about at the time, but eventually my friends and I found out he was referring to Ja Rule. Then all of a sudden nobody was listening to Ja Rule anymore, and that man had some hits at the time too.  It felt like one week we were listening to Ja Rule’s music vibing to “Always on Time” and “Put it on Me,” then a week later Ja Rule was trash.

The influence this man 50 cent had on Hip Hop fans was crazy. Then I heard “In the Club” and it was like this man is taking over hip hop. Oh, and I forgot to mention he got shot 9 times! A fact nobody fails to mention when speaking about  this man. Chris Rock even made a joke about how much people talked about him getting shot at the 2003 MTV VMA’s. Then, finally when his album dropped it was a wrap, crown the man because a new king has arrived.  The G-Unit takeover had begun.  Imagine seeing G-unit shirts everywhere, G-unit sneakers, and 50 even had white boys wearing du-rags.  You couldn’t walk down the school hallway without hearing somebody screaming “GGGGG G-Unit.”

I vividly remember going on a long car ride with my cousin and he had just purchased the album. He inserted it into the CD player and every track had us more hype than before. 50 cent released an almost flawless album. I say almost because I didn’t favor “P.I.M.P.”, but that record became a hit too. 50 cent just couldn't miss. The album contains probably the most "gangsta" song I’ve ever heard in “Heat.” That record would make even the weakest man feel tough for 4 minutes. He begins his verse with “Keep thinking I’m candy til your f*** skull get popped and ya brain jump out the top like Jack-in-the-box.” I still make the stank face when I hear it. The line that really hit me me  was when he said “Don’t think you’re safe cause you moved out the hood cause your momma still around dog and that aint good.”  I had never heard a line more savage than that in my life. I mean even Tony Montana said women and kids are off limits. “Many Men” was another track I couldn’t stop listening too, and “21 Questions” which is still to this day one of my all-time favorite songs. This album took the world by storm and quickly put 50 cent on the top of the rap game. Then he and the rest of G-Unit put out albums and movies that kept them on top for years.

Fake Love and No Hip Hop on set

Wassup #BYODFAM! This post is for the Love and Hip Hop and Ratchet Monday's Fans. Of course a new episode of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta aired this weekend and the official Aftershow went up. My panel and I had a blast on set as always. We decided to drink some "beverages" while watching the episode and that made the Aftershow all the better lol. All the talk on this episode about sleeping with married men and who's pregnant by who is hard to take in all at once. So much for reality tv....it's more like a soap opera! Anyway, check the official Aftershow below:

On the Aftershow I revealed that I was going to be on set for a specific show today. Due to confidentiality claims and forms I will not reveal the name of the show. But, I will share how my experience was on set. HORRRIBLE! Shit was trash bruh! I've been on numerous sets and this was the worst!

First off, the call time to meet at the pick up location was a half hour earlier than intended as told by one of the PA's. I should have known it was gonna be a rough day after learning that. But, I kept a positive head. After baking in the sun we headed to the "mansion".

Today's set was a pool party and they couldn't even get that right. They had prop drinks without alcohol. I'm not an alcoholic by any means but if your trying to portray a certain lifestyle at least make the effort while filming. On top of that my cup of whatever they passed out had particles of I don't know what in it. I biaccidently took a sip at first, then look down and noticed what was in it and said to myself "nah, I'm good on this". Looked like they didn't even clean the cups that were used.

They barely played music at this fake ass party. They asked us to portray a single release party vibe with high energy but it was hard to do that without music. The party music they did play was the single release of their newest female cast member. I can't say any names but let's just say the vibe in the party was redicouldness to be on the west coast! (Wink)

We didn't even get crafty on set! C'mon son no chips or fruit snacks! They had a grill on set...they placed hot dogs and bread on it and left them there lmao. They  didn't turn the grill on or even try too. What's even more amusing was the placing of the grill! If anybody was to be "grilling" they would have had to be able to walk on water to get to the grill.

It took a while for the filming to actually begin. Being on numerous sets before I've noticed that productions vary when it comes to filming but this just felt unorganized.

We got off set an hour and half later then promised. Ruined my schedule for the remainder of the day. When they finally got all the shots and everyone started to leave the PAs were even saying "this took way longer than needed".  I was baking in the sun the whole tim, but that's my fault. I should have gone into the shade when I had the chance.

In conclusion, NEVER AGAIN #BYODFAM!

My Experience on set of Tariq Nasheed's Doumentary of the 1804 Haitian Revolution

This past weekend I spend my time on set with the cast and crew of Tariq Nasheed's new documentary on the 1804 Haitian Revolution.

Being able to be apart of this project was an honor for me because my family is of Haitian descent. Both of my parents came straight from Haiti to America in pursuit of a better life. I was able to visit Haiti when I was a young child and I have a vivid memory of having to shower nude in public in front of everybody. The memory sticks with me because I was very embarrassed after showering but sadly that is the reality of living in a third world country like Haiti.

Now that I'm older, I have the chance to understand why Haiti is in its current state and condition. The 1804 Haitian Revolution is the only successful slave rebellion known to this day. If it wasn't for those Haitians that fought for their freedom in 1804 Haiti wouldn't be the independent country that it is today. Due to the fact the country became independent all of their outside resources were taken away from them. Forced to stand and be alone. Hence why Haitians are such strong people. Haitian people have learned to adapt and build from what they have. I've grown up watching this strong spirit in my own mother. She's overcome so many struggles and has always persevered through everything.

Being on set was a great experience. I was able to partake in a few scenes and watch how the documentary is being filmed. Everybody on set was cool and supportive to what needed to be done. Tariq himself was very cool. I've been on numerous film sets and I've come to find that directors tend to shy away from many on set especially extras. Tariq was very down to earth and interactive with everybody. He showed everybody love while still getting the task in front of him completed. I especially enjoyed how lunch for the weekend was catered by a Caribbean food company. That part helped spread the Caribbean vibe of the film. Plus, I LOVE PLANTENES (platanos) and being able to enjoy them outside of my own house was lovely!

Check out some BTS footage below and look forward to the final product in Fall 2017. S/O to Tariq Nasheed for the opportunity and all my zoes out there!

When You Talk Sh*t To The Wrong One

This new skit I experimented using a drone to capture the aerial shot. I'm always learning new ways to improve my work and thought adding a drone will give the audience a much different look. I've received great feedback on it. Let me know what you think! Also, s/o them boyz from JERSEY and everyone else for joining in on this skit!

BYOD Music Review for "Rather You Than Me" and "More Life"

Last Week Rick Ross and Drake both released new projects for 2017. Rick Ross's project "Rather You Than Me" delivers personal stories about his rise in the rap game as well as addressing topics such as his artist Meek Mill and former idol Birdman. Drake's project ""More Life" delivers a Caribbean feel in his first few tracks then he finishes it with tracks addressing his former rap beef with Meek Mill while taking shots at fellow Canadian rapper Tory Lanez. #DMC Episode 10: Dating Deal Breakers

This week on #DMC Dating, Mating, and Communicating we discuss Deal Breakers! What things can you or can you not deal with when it comes to a partner. I share my top 3 deal breakers are bad hygiene, self confidence, and communication. Taking showers and being well groomed is self explanatory if you ask me. Having low self esteem/confidence is major with me because I like to show my girlfriend off and if you don't think you're the baddest in the land than I won't either. Lastly, lack of communication can ruin any relationship. Whether it's romantic or platonic. You must be able to get across your thoughts and feelings on the relationship so I know where I stand and if I need to do anything to better the relationship. Communication is key!

Anywho, check out the episode and learn what are common deal breakers and what my co-host's deal breakers are as well! Leave me your thoughts in the comments below.

Love and Basketball 2017-Wanna Be My Girl?

Growing up, much like every other kid from my generation, one of my favorite moves was "Love And Basketball." So, for this week's skit the inspiration came from one of my favorite scenes when young Monica and Quincy walk to school together. I actually attached the original scene from the movie if you haven't seen it. Check it out below:
I added my own twist of incorporating Instagram since we live in the social media era. Check out my version of the scene and let me know your thoughts in the comment section.

From Sitting In A Box To Living Life On Top

Good Morning #BYODFAM and Happy Monday!
I'm at work waiting to end my shift at the moment. I started my Monday by watching today's Breakfast Club Interview featuring rapper Casanova. Prior to watching the interview I'd never had heard of this individual. I clicked the video thinking it's a good way to pass time on this shift. What I didn't expect was to understand the clarity in an individual when they speak their truth.  In this interview,Casanova shares stories of starting a life as a robber to when he was incarcerated to now being pursuing a career in music. . The substance that needs to be taken from this interview is when Casanova explains why he did such and such crime to land him in the position he was. He was brutally honest when explaining why he felt the need to rob people prior to being incarcerated. Even when he was in jail he did certain things feeling the need to prove himself to others, to gain credibility.

Growing up, much like Casanova I found myself in situations where I needed to be "Gangster" or claim to be.. I'd had been forced to do certain things in order to prove to those I hung around with that I was "Gangster" enough to hang. Fortunately, I was never caught or got into major trouble due to my actions. Casanova on the other hand wasn't so lucky and had to serve more than 7 years in prison. In his current state of mind based on this interview he understands that being "Gangster" is all bullshit. The need to prove yourself through illegal acts to gain credibility around people is a set up for disaster. And, this message is so important to share because there are sooooo many young people lost in this fisade. They are under the spell that they need to put in "work" in order to gain acceptance. In all reality they need to work on themselves to understand who to not hang around in order to better themselves.

BYOD is all about turning your negatives into positives!

Now it's one thing for me to say this message. I've never been to jail or don't have any felonies so I'm just a guy trying to preach right from wrong.

Now, to hear the message from an individual who's done the crimes, serves the time, and stilll alive to share his testimony is completely different. Listen to the message straight from Casanova below and i hope it will help change someone's life today.

Intellects Only Night

A few images of myself hosting the sold out "Intellects Only" showcase created by my partner Steve Brown. I didn't have a chance to bring my own camera but the photographer was able to capture a few shots of me in action. It was a great night of comedy, monologues, and musical performances. S/o to Steve Brown, all the performers that night, and the sold out crowd.

Stay Away From Goldiggers!

Fun skit about Goldiggers! We got inspiration from one of the funniest scenes out of the classic movie "Friday". We had a special soundtrack feature from Artist Wazy titled "The Seasons". Go support his music found on his SoundCloud

LA Screening Of "Shots Fired"

Last Night I attended the LA screening for the 10 episode series "Shots Fired"premiering on FOX Wed, March 22 at 8/7c. The Pacific Design Center/Silver Screen Center located in West Hollywood was jam packed with all different types of celebrtities and supporters. The creators/writers for this series are Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood. The cast for this series includes Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Stephen Moyer, Will Patton, Mack Wilds, Aisha Hinds, and more.

"Shots Fired" is a story that resonates with what's going on in todays world with the numerous killings of unarmed black men. This series shows the flip side to the issue where an unarmed white male is killed by Joshua Beck (Mack Wilds) an African American police officer. When the incident occurs in a small southern town in North Carolina  a seasoned investigator Ashe Akino (Sanaa Lathan) and a young special prosecutor, Preston Terry (Stephan James) are sent in to investigate the case. What the dynamic duo finds out based on the first episode is that there is more to the story than seen on the surface.

What I like best about the series thus far is how each character is relateable. The story telling in this series doesn't only show the professional side to each character but how their everyday life is as well. My favorite character thus far is Preston the prosecutor because he takes his job very serious and understands that it takes time to make a real change. Preston has a brother in the NFL that takes pride in coming from the hood and he lives the fast life. Their relationship is very relataeable due to the older brother constantly taking jabs at his younger brother Preston for being on the opposite side of the law. Its as if the brothers come from the same past but chose two separate paths for their futures.

Be sure to check out the first episode premiering next week March 22  at 8/7c on FOX. Check out some pics from my favorite celebrities on the carpet, cast and I below!
