Did Chris Rock hit the nail on the head at the Oscars or go to far?

Finally, the 88th Oscars came and now is gone. It feels like ever since the beginning of 2016 the Oscars was in every body's conversations. All beginning with Jada Pinkett Smith's video that went viral. She expressed her thoughts on diversity in Hollywood and choose not to attend the Oscars this year. Her video was the first domino to hit the others dominoes in a sense which began the Oscar talk. The question every black entertainer was asked is "Will you be attending the Oscars this year?" I wrote a earlier blog post about the whole story check it here: Should-chris-rock-still-host-oscars.html

I personally did not watch the Oscars but was on the lookout for Chris Rock. Did he do a good job hosting or not? There are many different views of course. Just check the front of these newspapers!

I think Chris Rock did a great job because he addressed what was on every body's mind. He wasn't afraid to poke fun and take jabs here and there. I especially liked how after the jokes were said he made sure to say "we want opportunity!" which truly put together what #whiteoscars was all about. He even brought out Stacey Dash and she uttered the words "Happy Black History Month".....I felt the awkwardness and I wasn't even there! (Thanks to social media) I wonder who the ONE person was that clapped for her? LOL

Anyway, if you missed Chris Rock's opening dialogue don't worry because Jimmy V always has your back. Watch the video below:

Damn Daniel, back at it again with the white vans!

Boy, am I late! 45 millions views later and I finally understand the viral sensation known as Damn, Daniel. My petty meter is at an all time high right about now lol Two high school students have beat the odds and become literal overnight sensations. A fun joke that started on snapchat between two friends has turned into a visit on the Ellen show, a free surfboard with the phrase "Damn, Daniel" on it, and a free lifetime issue of Van sneakers.

I know what your thinking "what is this Damn, Daniel about!?!" The storyline is one friend literally repeated the phrase Damn Daniel everyday after sixth period referrening to his friends fifty dollar shoes while recording him walking. Well laughter turned into views, which turned into pictures, which became the overnight sensation known as Damn Daniel!

Is this stupid? Hell yeah! Am I confused as to why this went viral? Hell yeah! I didn't even crack a smile my first time watching it. I guess it's something that grows on you. I guess 45 million people can agree with me on that. Just shows you can be your normal self and the magic will unravel on its own. Wish you guys could see my face as I said that bullsh*t lol If you haven't seen the viral video check it out right here:

Journal 1

Today, is a relaxing day. I rather stay busy but I don't have any reason to step out the house. Besides, Netflix has my eyes glued to the tv. I've been watching this series called Wentworth. It's like a more dramatic Orange is the New Black. These tv series on Netflix will take your life in hostage for about two weeks until you watch the whole series lol. You feel like you lost someone special after you watched the whole series. Anyways, I'm doing some editing today of all my past footage from 2015 and the beginning of this year thus far. I need to send it in for a opportunity to possibly come my way. One of my main goals of 2016 is to get a on camera host job. So, I have to make sure my footage is on point, my head shots is up to date and ready to go. Its my time to win this year!

Who remembers this group from the '90s City High:

Rap Game Winner

The tv show The Rap Game on the Lifetime network was a breakout show. In its first season The Rap Game broke network ratings as the most watched show by hitting the millions every week. It was a cool show. The show was so successful it got picked up for SEASON 2! Be on the look out for casting notices if you have a potential child star on your hands. I liked how you could learn something in every episode whether you are looking to be an artist on the rise or manager. Out of the 5 contestants: Yung Lyric, Lil Niqo, Supa Peach, Miss Mulatto,Lil Poopy; only one artist could win the So So Deff Contract with Jermaine Dupri and the bling bling that goes with it. After 8 weeks the winner of the Rap Game boot camp the winner came out to be Miss Mulatto!

Big congratulations to the young rising star only 17 at the time of shooting. With already a large social media following Miss Mulatto is the newest member to the So So Def roster.

Being a host of the Official Aftershow for the The Rap Game on Afterbuzz network I agreed with Jermaine Dupris decision. After watching the contestants week after week Miss Mulatto consistently was top 3 in rankings. She came in first place leading the rankings more than twice in the 8 weeks span. She has great writing skills, great performances and the swag that puts the bow on everything. But, don't sleep on the other contestants. Even though they didn't get the contract each contestant has the potential on being the next break out child star. Be sure to be on the look out for not only Miss Mulatto but Lil Niqo, Yung Lyice, Supa Peach and my hometown favorite Lil Poopy.

Lil Poopy stopped by our season finale Aftershow via Skype and chopped it up with the panel this past Monday. Check out the Aftershow below:

Rappers who are giving back

I'm not a fan of other blog outlets that expose entertainers for the negative that they do. It's like we as a viewer don't want to deal with our own problems so we feed into our favorite entertainers' problems to ease our own pain. When you think about it these reality shows that we see on TV like Love and Hip Hop get the greatest ratings when there is something negative being displayed on the show. Where is the positive!

Good thing is if you don't know...BE YOUR OWN DAD is all about negative to positive. So today, I will let you guys in on a few Rappers in Hip Hop that are dong positive things and giving back.

A latest Huffington Post video shared:
1. Chance The Rapper-He started a social media campaign to stop Chicago murders and gun violence. He has raised 100k to help Chicago schools in need.

2. Big Sean- Launched the Sean Anderson Foundation to help educate and assist children in Detroit.

3. The Game- Donated $1 million in water bottles To Flint Water Crisis. (I posted about this in an earlier bog post check it out here: The game looking for receipts
Also, started The Robin Hood Project which donated $1 million to people worldwide.

4. Kendrick Lamar- Donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to Compton schools and local charities.

5. J. Cole- Started the Dreamville Foundation to support urban youth.

6. Drake- Donated 75k to create a music studio at Philadelphia high school

7. Nelly- Has sent two students to college every year for the last TEN years

My favorite rapper J. Cole has always put on for the Ville and it looks like he's not the only one giving back.

Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Sports Awards 2015

The Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports Awards was held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, CA. The star studded event brought out both adults and children joining together to celebrate the amazing athletes of this past year. Athletes from young softball superstar Mo’ne Davis to Nba Champion Stephen Curry walked the orange carpet in celebration of the Choice Sports Awards.

EURweb had the chance to speak with the game winning interception Superbowl Champion Malcolm Butler, Philadelphia 76ers Center Javale McGee, Detroit Pistons star Andre Drummond, and many more.
“Work Hard and Stay Focused” was the motto for many of the athletes on the red carpet. Many players shared stories of consistently working on their game and wanting to get better every season. One NFL player admitted that research and being prepared is what gave him the edge last season. “Coach told me to get in the game and I recognized the formation the offense was in and I jumped the route of the receiver” is what Malcolm Butler of the Patriots expressed as he was describing his final moments in the breath taking SuperBowl this past year.

One thing we can all agree on is these athletes have many young fans looking up to them. In a world where mistakes are often caught so easily the athletes expressed that trying to be a good role model for the youth is very important to them. Many remember looking up to different athletes as they were children coming up and they wanted to be just like them. So they understand that what they say, do, and represent is a major part of their jobs. They want to do right by the kids and also right by themselves. Being on the orange carpet is a young kids dream and every athlete was happy to be there for their fans.

Rise of the Phoenix Awards

The Rise of the Phoenix Awards was held on Wednesday August 12, 2015 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, CA.  This event was hosted by the one and only Reverend Al Sharpton, the President of the National Action Network. The awards brought together exemplary individuals that have demonstrated extraordinary vision and leadership in the movement for social change.

The honorees for the event include Brad Johnson, Janice Bryant Howroyd, Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigos, Glen “Doc” Rivers and John Singlet on.

The red carpet was star studded as expected featuring celebrities such as reality show personality Omarosa Manigault, Actor Jerome Ro Brooks currently featured in the hit TV series “The Haves and the Have Nots, Ashley Jackson daughter of Reverend Jesse Jackson, and many more.
Eurweb’s own Jimmy V was able to speak with some of the celebrities and ask “how can we bring change to our community and those around us?” Many agreed that being in a position of any success allows you to reach back to those in need and lend out a helping hand to help further those unfortunate. Jerome Ro Brooks answered by stating “leading by example is what I try to do best. Many people talk the talk but it shows more to walk the walk as well.”

Reverend Al Sharpton, who is known as one of the great civil rights leaders of our generation was able to give his thoughts on the recent Ferguson shooting that occurred during the first year remembrance rally of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. He passionately expressed that change is needed and he will not be stopped until it comes. Sharpton shared that he gathered the mothers of victims of police brutality throughout the country and brought them together for a meeting. The meeting opened a door for one another to comfort and understand each other; a change that may not be seen by millions but affects many.

Living Legends Foundation

The 19th Living Legends Foundation was held on Friday October 9, 2015 at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, CA. The organization returned to LA for its second awards dinner and gala. The Foundation put the event on to honor eleven individuals and one radio broadcast company. A few individuals that were honored include Troy Carter, Dr. Logan H. Westbrooks, James Leach, Kendall Minter, and LA’s own Big Boy.

The Friday reached temperatures as high as 99 but ended with some cool people. The red carpet wasn’t a sight to miss. Not only did we see honorees on the red carpet but big names in the music industry such as the creator of the Living Legends Foundation Ray Harris, Robert “Kool” Bell of Kool & the Gang, James Leach, and Michael Carter.

EurWeb’s correspondent Jimmy V was on sight and had the chance to cover this overly talented red carpet. In an interview with Ray Harris we learn that the organization brings light to all the hard workers behind the scene.  Harris states “there is a definite need to recognize some of the players in the game that normally don’t get the recognition”. Young people often think that the artist is the sole contributor to their own success but it takes a true team to help build an artist and continue to push them forward. Without marketing and promotion teams an artist’s music may not be able to reach the masses that it needs to reach.

With the rise of social media an artist has the opportunity to create a platform and be heard on their own. On the carpet Jeff Harlelston of Universal Music Group explained that social media is a blessing and a curse. The blessing is being able to be heard which exes out some of the traditional routes into the music industry, but a curse of not being able to control your song rights and where the song is used in different mediums. A successful team behind you is all that is needed to help the upcoming artist to success.

Champions for Choice in Education Pre-Espy Event

The 4th Annual Champions for Choice in Education Pre-Espy’s Event was a star studded event held on July 13, 2015 in Downtown Los Angeles. Hosted on the Rooftop of the Luxe Hotel athletes and celebrities came together to celebrate the success of the Champions for Choice in Education organization that aids children in attending private or public schools no matter what zip code they are located in.

The event honored Actress/Philanthropist Holly Robinson Peete and former Quarterback Rodney Peete/Sports Analyst for their effortless work for kids for the HollyRod foundation and former NBA star/ESPN sports analyst Jalen Rose for his Jalen Rose Leadership Academy.

The night began with an amazing red carpet featuring WNBA Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie, 4 time NBA Champion John Salley, Kaitlin Doubleday (from Empire), Garcelle Beauvais (Actress) , and many more.

Eurweb’s own Jimmy V was able to speak with some of the celebrities and find out why they support Champions for Choice and what information they could share with the upcoming generation.
“I think giving a child a choice to get to the right school, to get to the right programs is everything” is what Garcelle Beauvais expressed on the red carpet speaking on the topic of education. Many celebrities and athletes shared that education is an important aspect in becoming successful in life. When asked about chasing a passion Beauvais shares to “stay true to yourself, learn the craft, be proud of what you do, and be prepared for when the opportunity comes.”

Lisa Leslie shared a few words on why she teamed up with American Confederation for Children. She expressed “a lot of parents can’t afford to pack up and leave so what about all those children we leave behind?” She hopes one day all parents will have the opportunity to choose whether public, private, or home schooling is best for their children whether or not the school is within their reach financially or not.
