When The Strings Align- Kuba and the Two Strings Hits theatres this weekend

When The Strings Align
Kuba and the Two Strings is directed by President & CEO of LAIKA production Travis Knight and is set to be released in theatres nationwide August 19, 2016. The film is a new coming of age story that is brilliantly expressed through animation. LAIKA is an award-winning feature film animation studio that’s produced Academy and Golden Globe winning films such as The Boxtrolls (2014) and Coraline (2009). In a recent press conference for this film director Travis Knight stated “as a child every boy wants either a train set or a karate movie”. It’s safe to say Kuba and the Two Strings is the karate movie that Knight always wanted.

Kubo is a gifted young soul that enjoys telling stories to the people of his town while using origami to express his visions. Art Parkinson, who is known for his role in Game of Thrones, is the voice of young Kubo who goes on a journey to solve the mystery of his dead father, the greatest samurai warrior to have ever lived.  On this journey, young Kubo is accompanied by the greatest companions a young soldier could have Monkey and Beetle. Charlize Theron, who is known for her academy award winning performance in Monster, is the voice of Monkey. Monkey serves as a guardian angel for Kubo and protects him from the many obstacles they endure. Academy Award Winner Matthew McConaughey, who is known for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, is the voice of Beetle, a fearless warrior that suffers from memory loss. This dynamic trio brings the audience on a fun filled adventure that leaves us with a great story to tell in the end.

I would say Kubo begins the movie as a scared child but takes charge and becomes a young man in the end. Ironically, Matthew McConaughey stated at the press conference “You have to fight and have the courage to write your own ending.” After the many action packed scenes in this film Kubo, Beetle, and Monkey write an ending that will keeps audiences smiling as they walk to their vehicles. In conclusion, director Travis Knight produced a great animation which will surely teach its audience to have courage, strength and drive.
