In the bible Good Friday is the day when Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross. It was the day he died for our sins. Growing up in the church the teenagers and adults would do a 30-hour famine. A 30-hour famine is fasting for 30 hours starting on Friday night and only drinking water (not eating any food) while doing community work and group building activities throughout the weekend. On Easter Sunday we would have a feast in celebration of our accomplishments. I participated in this two years in a row. Unknowingly theses experiences have played a major role in my development.
The
first few hours of not eating anything are fine but hours 12-30 test
your discipline and focus. My stomach would growl and I would begin to
realize how important food is for everyday activities. My smelling
senses would increase and I could smell food from miles away. The
temptation is everywhere and the true test becomes being able to last
until hour 30. The last hour I would begin to shake and want to quit,
but I always knew the prize after hour 30 is the greatest. And, no its
not the eggs, pancake, and various food we would eat. For me, the
greatest accomplishment is being able to say I lasted 30 hours.
I wanted to share this because 1. This weekend brings up those memories and 2.When you have a goal just know the final hours before completing that goal will be the hardest. If you stay focused and disciplined the reward of achieving that goal will push you to higher levels in life.
