Grammys 2018 Award Winner List, Bruno Mars Beats out Kendrick Lamar & Jay Z for Album Of The Year

The Grammys disappoint Rap & Hip Hop fans once again. I reported last week that categories like "Album of the Year" and "Record of the Year" have never been won by a rap/hip hop artist. This year began different with nominations for Jay Z and Kendrick Lamar for Album of the year. But, it still appears to be the same story as Bruno Mars (a pop star) took the awards home for both Album and Record of the Year. Don't get me wrong I'm a Bruno Mars fan! "Versace On The Floor" is one of my favorite records to play when its time to be behind close doors with my lady. So, I want to send a big congratulations to Bruno Mars on receiving 6 Grammy awards this year.

Kendrick Lamar had a great night as he opened the 2018 Grammys with a dope performance featuring U2 and legendary comedian Dave Chappelle. Kendrick took home 5 total Grammy awards including Best Rap Album over rap sparring partner Jay-Z. So, what awards did one of the GOATS of Hip Hop Jay Z receive? None..natta..zilch...as people say..and Hip Hop fans are not happy at all including me!

Jay-Z's last album "4:44" was a monumental album for our Hip Hop culture. Jay-Z not only entertained, but educated his audience about various topics including building wealth, Black America, and issues in his own marriage with wife Beyonce. This 13th studio album put him in a lane of his own but I guess that's all that was accomplished. Right? Wrong! I don't care what the Grammys represent. It shouldn't hold more weight over the impact a woke conscious album can have on a community. I personally think a man trying to uplift his community should always be rewarded.

Lastly, another favorite artist of mine "The Weeknd" took home one Grammy this year as well. Congratulations to every artist for receiving nominations and Grammy awards. Here's a complete list of winners below:
