This year the event not only recognized and awarded the most successful producers and writers of this past year but also gave Nile Rodgers the “BMI Icon Award”. As a cultural icon and music innovator with over 200 production credits, 17 BMI Awards, and three Grammy Awards, Rodgers transcends all styles of music across multiple generations.

The red carpet was a star studded as expected featuring artists and celebrities such as rapper B.O.B, Hip Hop legends Snoop Dog and E-40, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Grammy Award winner Dallas Austin, Producer Mike Dean and many more. EUR Web associate Jimmy V was on the scene and spoke with some of the nominees and celebs.

The 2014 BMI Producer of the Year DJ Mustard shared that he plans to “work with everybody and try to do as much as we can”. He sure did back up his words this year as he took home over 5 BMI awards and was awarded the 2015 BMI Songwriter and Producer of the Year.

Nile Rodgers shared “It’s greatly humbling to be the icon award recipient this year”. He expressed that normally this award is given at the end of a musicians’ career but this will not slow him down. R&B Artist B.Howard shared that Rodgers is a great inspiration for him. “I like how he transcends time through his work and always keeping it current”. In a time where R&B and Hip Hop is constantly changing Nile Rodgers is a true icon and stays true to the culture.
