We are back at it #BYODFAM! Earlier, I posted a blog post about Kendrick Lamar's recent Grammy Performance and the impact his platform has. To reiterate for a second Kendrick Lamar is different than every other rapper in the Hip Hop culture because he chooses to speak and write about real topics that occur in this generation. For the past decade, rappers' topics have been about getting a crazy amount of b*tches, spending all the money that their making, purchasing different types of materialistic items, and drug dealing....so typical. Kendrick can easily write about those same topics! Kendrick has the money, he can buy a car for every day of the week, and he can boast about his lifestyle. But, if he did than he wouldn't be the artist that he is today. He chooses to speak about race in America, giving the younger generation hope, and following your own passions and dreams. You see, when you decide to be different then the majority others see your inner greatness. What's critical is understanding where a person comes from to understand what they are trying to express. When you understand the background of Kendrick Lamar than you will understand how strong his message is and what it truly means.
